Light Spring asks for three things at once, light, warm, and clear-but-delicate, and Maya answers all three without argument. Her depth never leaves the pale register: skin, hair, and eyes are all light, and the distance between them is small enough that nothing in her face wants to be outshouted. Her warmth is native rather than borrowed, arriving as freckles, gold in the hair, and a peach flush rather than a rose one. And her colouring is clear rather than dusty, those blue-green eyes hold light, which is why fully greyed shades leave her looking a little smudged. Tints with sun in them are what work: coral blush, soft buttercup, powder sky, spring mint, warm apricot, and cream instead of stark white. Her lighter Stranger Things press run and the pale, gauzy Prada and Chanel she wears in mint and blush are the proof, in those shades her freckles read as pattern and her eyes turn on. Warm gold at the collarbone belongs to her; heavy silver reads as an object placed nearby.

The obvious counter-call is Light Summer, and it is a near miss for a reason: she is undeniably light and undeniably soft, which is two of the three. But Light Summer is cool, and cool is exactly what her face rejects. Put her in ash-lavender or icy pink and the golden cast in her skin fights the fabric, the freckles go muddy and her cheeks turn a raw, unblended pink. Her hair is the tell nobody can talk around: it grows strawberry, not ash, and no Summer palette knows what to do with red-gold. Warm Spring is the pull in the other direction, and it fails on volume rather than temperature. Warm Spring runs brighter and more saturated, poppy, true turquoise, hot marigold, and those colours are simply louder than she is. Her contrast is too low to survive them; the dress ends up doing the acting. She needs the warmth of Spring at Light Spring's whispered volume. Warm and light, not cool and light, and not warm and loud.
