Alison Brie
is a Soft Autumn.

The red-carpet record makes the case for her. At the Green Carpet Fashion Awards in Milan she wore mossy green satin with a champagne bodice, and the effect was seamless, the earthy green echoed her hazel eyes while the warm metallic sat inside her skin's own temperature instead of arguing with it. Her blush rose-gold gown at the 2018 ESPYs did the same trick from the peach side of the palette: a muted, warmed pink that blurred into her complexion and let her face do the talking. Off duty, she gravitates to exactly what the season prescribes, camel knits, tan trenches, olive and taupe layers, and in those tonal earth-toned outfits her hair looks richer and her eyes greener without a stitch of extra makeup. Muted teal, Soft Autumn's borrowed blue, deepens her eyes without chilling her skin. Whenever the color quiets down and warms up, Alison visibly turns up. Soft Summer is the closest neighbour, and the muted quality of Alison's coloring makes the confusion understandable, but Soft Summer runs cool, and Alison does not. In rosy-ash tones her skin turns faintly grey; in camel and warm taupe it turns luminous, which is the warm-lean tiebreaker in action. Her hair shows caramel, not ash, and her flush is peach, not cool pink, a Soft Summer would show the reverse. True Autumn (Warm Autumn) fails on the other axis: that season demands rust, pumpkin, and saturated gold, and those full-strength spice shades are simply too loud for her. Strong saturated color of any temperature, the hot pink cocktail dress, the electric blue ESPYs mini, wears her rather than the other way around, which rules out every bright season at a stroke.
